Bull Ring

In the IB area, guys continue to catch Halibut. We had a contact score for a pair of nice ones today that measured 26″ and 37.″
The rockfish action on the Upper 9 is excellent, especially with live squid. Big bocaccios, Mexicans, and reds are chomping on the squid!Fish Dope

Coronado Islands/Rockpile
If you can keep the sea lions off, there is a decent shot at yellowtail and legal-sized barracuda. That said, most of the info we got today said the fishing at the Islands was tough.
Slow-trolling sardines with and/or without 12 to 16 oz. of lead proved effective for the yellows and the ‘cuda.

If you want to cover more water, switch to DTX Minnows or Rapalas. They are faster. Both help to keep the sea lions away, as sitting on the anchor running a chum line gets you loaded up with sea lions after a few minutes.

The best chance for getting yellows is along the weather side of North Island from Pukey to the Key Hole, in the Middle Grounds/Middle Island area, around the Gun Site to the Ribbon Kelp area.
The best bet for the barracuda is the Ribbon Kelp, Lighthouse Kelp, South Kelp, and SKR. The calico bass are biting at the boiler rocks in the Middle Islands area. Throw swimbait right up into the boiler rocks and wind them out at a medium speed. The bass are also showing in the Middle Grounds, Ribbon Kelp, Lighthouse Kelp, and South Kelp areas. …Fish Dope

Ensenada

Barracuda fishing is wide open. This is by far and away the best ‘cuda fishing in our coverage area – the best it has been all year.
The local boats are loading up with easy limits.
They are seen as jumpers and up under birds in the lee of Todo Santos Island and just up the coast at Salsipuedes.
Guys are getting them here by throwing iron and trolling Rapalas is slam dunk fishing, too.
It is excellent, wide-open fun to fish! These ‘cuda are said to be running from about 27″ up to around 40″ or so. A 40-inch barracuda weighs in at about 7 to 8 pounds.
Best of all, there appear to be a few yellowtail and the odd seabass mixed in with this ‘ cuda.
At Punta Banda, there has been some sign of seabass late in the afternoon and evening. Good calico bass fishing up in the boiler rocks on swimbaits.Fishdope.com

Mulege/Conception Bay

The fishery is hot!!! I’m headed out with my wife’s cousin and his friend to show them about fast- and slow-pitch jigging. A glassy day provided limits for all four of us on board. The fish were all caught close to the bottom 250-300ft. Once hooked up, you had to pull hard to turn the head of the fish before losing it and the lure. We spearfished the day before, and the area was healthy with grouper, snapper, and big Almaco jack. Bulls Only Dorado Tournament in Punta Chivato was a huge success with bigger-grade fish. First Place topped 40 pounds, and Second Place was 37.4.

Coming to the Mulege area? Stay with us at Casa Concepcion, and we will dial you in to go fishing. …Nathan Burbey

Crazy! Trolling with feathers for dorado and caught this 30.6lb beauty instead. I’ll take it! Deanna Lyn-PiwowarczykLoreto Fish Report

López Mateos

1. Get bait. 2. Corvina. 3. Halibut. 4. Grouper. 5. Another grouper. 6. Another corvina (caught on plastic).

Went to the Grouper Rocks in front of Lopez outside the Boca. Can hardly get to the area for all the Lengua nets. he water outside was 64.8 degrees, cloudy and green from all the turmoil.

So we dallied around for an hour and a half and then went inside the Mangroves at the Boca where the water was 74 degrees.  Slow but steady corvina and grouper.

Last week clients from Buena Vista fished for one and a half days inside the Bay and left with an ice chest of nice vacuumed and frozen fish.  Mainly grouper and corvina with a couple of small halibut. The on-land morning temp is 63, and the daytime temp is around 80, so it’s finally warming up. Winds are steady til the 26th…Cheri King

Yet another phenomenal day!!
We boated six giant Rooster. My first came on my Thorne’s Black Hole “Happy Stick.”
Only to be outdone by the “Hendricks 99” flipping stick. My first fish ever on the rod; Van and Barb were in my heart and head with every crank!
For good measure, we ended the day with seven tuna (three on poppers.)
Did I mention we saw a big pod of Orca? David LeCompte

Puerto Los Cabos

With most school semesters done and many schools in summer recess, more families are arriving. Weather patterns have been great, and it is a perfect time to visit Puerto Los Cabos, with its basically clear sunny skies, temperatures nearing 90 degrees (but still bearable and not yet too hot as it can be in the coming months), and the Pacific afternoon breezes that are still refreshing.

Overall, the fishing action is still excellent. Offshore striped marlin action is a bit more scattered, and more schools of bolito are being reported, which is always a good sign for attracting larger pelagic gamefish. In our local Marina area, the primary bait source has been caballito, jurelito, ballyhoo, and slabs of squid, even though not many fish have been hitting on the strips.

On the grounds from Iman to San Luis Banks, hog-sized amberjack have been brought in daily, most of them striking on live bait. We saw many fish in the 30 to 80-pound range, and most days, the best action was early in the morning.

In the same rocky high spots and even closer to shore, anglers used bait and yo-yo jigs to find a mix of leopard grouper, barred pargo, yellow or red snapper, bonito, pompano, and triggerfish. None of these were in very high numbers, but some quality, great-eating fish are being found.

Besides the trophy-sized amberjack, another highlight has been a handful of very nice-sized bull dorado, up to 40 pounds or more, found scattered throughout the region, frequently in pairs, with the smaller females, they were encountered from close to shore, on the roosterfish beach stretches, to bottom fishing spots, and on offshore marlin grounds.

There were yellowfin tuna weighing in at the 5 to 30-pound range associated with the porpoise, often a 50-mile run in each direction, so it was not a practical charter option unless contracting in advance for additional fees. Although some tuna were hooked near Iman and San Luis, it was sporadic and unpredictable. However, these fish were of excellent quality, over 60 pounds.

Only a few wahoo were reported, most of which were in the 25 to 35-pound range, striking incidentally while bottom fishing; some on the more traditional trolling Rapala-type plugs. Conditions are favorable now as water temperatures are in the upper 70s, though water is not the deep blue these fish prefer. It is slightly off-colored from the changing currents and increased ocean swells.

Inshore, the main deal was slow-trolling bait for jack crevalle and roosterfish, which is now peak season. The season started out a little late, but the charters that have targeted them did well on fish up to 40 pounds. …Good Fishing, Eric
